" MANILA, Philippines -- An official of the United States government on Monday urged Filipino students to apply for scholarships to study in her country to “further the wonderful partnership between the Philippines and the US.”
“We want you Filipino students to come to the US to share your rich culture with us,” Goli Ameri, US Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, said in an address to Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila students. -->
Ameri said there were about 4,000 educational institutions in the US “thirsting for Filipino culture.”
“America’s doors are open (to you),” she said, adding that the bond between the US and the Philippines would remains strong because of shared values such as freedom, democracy and justice. She said the US government had tried to provide opportunities to less-privileged but talented students through its English Access Scholarship Program, Undergraduate Summer Program, Youth Exchange and Study Program, and Global Undergraduate Program.
Ameri said she had been everywhere, from Latin America to Azerbaijan, to speak to students and young people. “Time and time again, the youth tell me they want to be connected to a bigger world,” she said.

Goli Ameri (in Persian:??? ????? née Goli Yazdi, born September 26, 1956) is an Iranian American politician, diplomat and businesswoman from the U.S. state of Oregon and a member of the Republican Party. She is the current Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs. She ran for the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican in 2004, and is a former delegate to the United Nations. She was born in Tehran, Iran.
