Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the Honorable Tani Cantil-Sakauye as his choice for chief justice of the California Supreme Court.
 
“Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye has a distinguished history of public service and understands that the role of a justice is not to create law, but to independently and fairly interpret and administer the law,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “She is a living example of the American Dream and when she is confirmed by the voters in November, Judge Cantil-Sakauye will become California’s first Filipina chief justice; adding to our High Court’s already rich diversity.”

"An eight year-old Filipina writer will enjoy a unique honor this Sunday—having her work read aloud by US First Lady Michelle Obama.  Kiana Tuzon, the daughter of Filipino American US Marine Norman Tuzon, won an essay contest of the Armed Services YMCA. 
This winning essay will be read this weekend by Mrs. Obama.  Mrs. Obama will visit Camp Pendleton on Sunday (June 12, 2010), and will meet with Kiana, her mother Eliza Tuzon and other military families.  In the essay titled, “My Military Hero",” Kiana talks about how proud she is of her dad who is now in Afghanistan, and her mom.  “When he is deployed to other countries…my military hero is my mom…she works 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. She is always there when I need her,” writes Kiana.  The essay is on display with 25 other winners at the US Senate."

" In a bid to produce cheaper oil as a solution to the increasing cost and harmful effects to the environment of fossil fuel, an 18-year-old student from the University of the Philippines (UP) has developed a technology that uses recycled plastic to harvest algae for oil production.

Janella Mae Salamania, a student of Applied Physics in UP-Diliman, whose project plan on renewable energy “Oilgae Harvesting Using Plastics” that deals on cheaper method of growing and harvesting algae for the production of oil has caught the attention of the Finnish government.

OLONGAPO CITY—As a young recruit in the US Navy 30 years ago, the man who would rise to the highest reaches of the world’s remaining military superpower could not have dream of the impact he would have on the world.

But Capt. Ulysses Zalamea, 53, the Filipino-American US naval officer in charge of the planning and execution of the $15-billion buildup in Guam, would show through his rapid rise soon after he joined the US Navy that he had “the right stuff.”  Zalamea said about $1 billion worth of projects are scheduled to be completed or begun this year....

Mabuhay!  The video shows the high school and grade school students of Comon, Tabaco City, in the province of Albay, Philippines - the recipient of the FILAMCLUB's third educational scholarship.  It has been three years since the Club started supporting the Comon kids.  The video was taken in April 2008 by one of the members of the Club.  Indeed, the Club is grateful for the continued support of it members, patronages, benefactors, and friends.  Yearly, the Club usually hold its 50/50 Off-Premise Cash Raffle to achieve its support to the kids.  Feel free to comment regarding the video; its 19.5 minutes long. "  Let us say you are a manager in a company or simply you have your own business, big enough for you to hire employees or someone to assist you in managing your business, you usually prefer to hire someone who is related to you, maybe by blood or by marriage, or someone you trust, your friend, instead of somebody else. The others might be deserving for the position but because of human instinct, automatically, you will choose your friend or relative basically to help them by giving job as a source of their income or because of debt of gratitude, then you might be guilty of nepotism...
